All you need to know before going on a holiday to Singapore from Sri Lanka

Singapore is a tiny country close to the size of Colombo District. It is a very clean and disciplined country. Most of the people are helpful, everyone knows English so you don't have to worry about communication. Below are some useful tips if you are planning a trip to Singapore.

Key Points To Know

  • Visa
  • Sim
  • Food and Lodging
  • Travelling
  • Places to Visit

Visa

Currently Singapore provides on arrival visa for Sri Lankans, but this can be changed in future better to inquire about this before beginning your journey.

Sim

You can order a SIM from online app called "KLOOK". I personally felt that was the best deal I ever had for communication.
SIM was $7 and you can use it for 7 days and the most fascinating thing is that it had 100GB data. That's something everyone would enjoy.

SIM can be collected at the Airport arrival terminal.
Important : Please check the arrival terminal in your flight ticket and choose that terminal in "KLOOK" to collect your SIM.
There are help desks, if you face any difficulty in finding the place to collect your SIM ask from them, they will guide you to the correct place.
Don't ask from shops you will not get good responses from them it is a waste of your time.

Travelling

If you are travelling alone then public transport is the best. You can buy a travel card which is valid for 3 days/1 day
at the Airport with unlimited travel time on any transport mode. If you are staying for more than 3 days then you can topup the card
at any MRT station after the valid period expires.
Important : Please install the App "GRAB" on your phone it is like "UBER".
If you are travelling with your family (eg : 4 Members/3 Members) then taxi is the best. For any place, you can travel between $5 - $20 per ride and it is easier as well
rather than walking from Bus Stop to Bus Stop or MRT to Bus Stop.

Once you reached the Singapore Airport it would be painless if you grab a CAB to reach your Hotel. Travelling to your hotel via public
transport may become hectic after a 4hr flight since you have to travel here and there with your luggages in order to find the buses or MRT.

How will you find the correct BUS or MRT(Sort of an express Train but travelling through Tunnels).

Google Maps always work there, fastest mode to travel to your desired place is shown on Google Maps. It always shows you which bus to catch or which MRT to catch with specific time.
The time periods mentioned on Goole Maps are precise. If it says 123 Bus reaches Clarke Quay bus stop at 10.40 a.m
it exactly comes there at 10.40 a.m. MRT can be accessed frequently as well. There is always a MRT between a 5min time window. Most of the MRT stations are located at the basement of Malls
that is you have to walk down close to 4 storeys (Don't worry escalators are there to escort you).

Food and Lodging

  • Lodging

You can always choose accomodation from Booking.com.
There are range of places to stay depending on your budget. Most importantly choose
a place which is closer to the city.
The place we stayed was "Hotel Robertson Quay" with Breakfast. I prefer to have breakfast at hotel
due to my requirements. "Robertson Quay" served the same menu for the Breakfast that is "English Breakfast".
If you are a fan of "English Breakfast" then it is a nice place to stay. It is by the side of Singapore River.

  • Food

It is better if you can have your breakfast at hotel since then fueling up you can have a long session travelling around Singapore.
There are so many malls in Singapore, each and every mall have Food Courts which are of multicultural restaurants.
But if you go to Little India you can taste food familiar to Sri Lankans.
Per person a meal will averagely cost around $10-$20, but ofcourse in Little India you can eat cheaper than that averagely $6 per person.

Places to Visit and how to book tickets

There are many interesting places to visit in Singapore. Some of them are

Sentosa Island (Below are some you can visit in Sentosa Island)

  • Universal Studios
  • SEA Aquarium
  • Cable Car Ride
  • Wax Musuem (Madame Tussauds)

Located at the same place

  • Marina Bay Sands Sky Park - Beautiful view to see at night.
  • Gardens By the Bay - A very relaxing anf beautiful place (either night or morning)

Other attractive places

  • Merlion Statue and Park

Most of the tickets can be purchased via "KLOOK" or at Airport. This is cheaper comparative to buying at venue itself.
